Moderated by Fred Kaynor, Managing Director at DAFgiving360™, this session provides a timely look at current research supporting the donor-advised fund (DAF) sector. Dan Heist, PhD, who leads the DAF Research Collaborative, will share key insights from the 2025 DAF performance study, along with an update on new research commissioned by DAFgiving360 on how investment advisors are prioritizing philanthropy within their broader approach to wealth planning.
The program will also feature Beth Lipson of Opportunity Finance Network (OFN), who will present findings from a joint study with DAFgiving360 demonstrating how grants to Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFIs) can help donors create meaningful community impact.

Fred Kaynor leads the growth team at DAFgiving360 which is responsible for partnering with donors, financial advisors, business partners and charities to increase the impact and efficiency of charitable giving in the United States. During his tenure, Fred has established an extensive, fully integrated marketing, communications, and partnerships strategy that has established DAFgiving360 as one of the nation’s leading grantmaking organizations. Fred brings over 25 years of financial services experience after holding senior-level marketing and growth-related positions at both MasterCard and Visa. He began his career in advertising, managing campaigns for clients such as Kraft Foods, Hunt Wesson, Acura, and Colgate-Palmolive. He is a graduate of Boston College and a former Coro Foundation Public Affairs Leadership fellow.
Dr. H. Daniel Heist is an Assistant Professor of Nonprofit Management and Leadership at the George W. Romney Institute for Public Service and Ethics at Brigham Young University. He researches philanthropy, charitable giving and volunteering. Dr. Heist is a leading expert on donor advised funds and co-founder of the Donor Advised Fund Research Collaborative.
Beth Lipson is a finance and community development leader with 30 years of experience in capitalization, CDFIs, and impact-focused financial management. Before launching her consulting practice in 2025, she spent 27 years at Opportunity Finance Network (OFN), serving in roles across underwriting, industry training, and large-scale initiative management. Most recently, as OFN’s Chief Financial Officer, she oversaw finance, accounting, budgeting, development, and capitalization, and she continues to advise the organization as a Senior Advisor.
